Former UFC champion Conor McGregor announced Thursday that he intends to run for Ireland's presidency, making immigration one of his biggest issues.
McGregor announced in a post on X.
“Ireland needs to be fully implemented EU Migration Agreement By June 12, 2026,” McGregor said in his post.
“Therefore, between June 12, 2026, some laws must pass both the Oiliatitas homes and then be signed by the president,” he continued, adding that the next presidential election will take place on November 11th.
“Who else will stand up to the government and oppose this bill?” he wrote. “The other presidential candidates they're trying to propose will not resist them.”
“I'll do it!” cried McGregor.
Ireland is set up to fully implement rules of very generous and open boundary style that have unsafe and disabled many parts of Europe. McGregor opposes this scheme.
“Also, to be clear, as President, I will submit this bill to a referendum. I am a big opposition to this agreement, but it is not mine or the government's choice. It is the choice of the people of Ireland! Always! It is a true democracy!” he wrote.
He wrote that he hopes to lead the debate on these issues and help vote to see who in the Irish government supports the EU plan.
“This is the future of Ireland along with me as president,” he promised.
“To ensure that all citizens of Ireland make voices and choices for their future! God bless our people!” he said.
“Vote for McGregor and let me hear your voice!” the fighter concluded.
Current President Michael D. Higgins will be restricted from his term next year after his second term ends. Each term is seven years, and the incumbent president can only provide two terms.
The Irish government has already attacked McGregor due to his past comments on immigrants who have not been attacked.
For example, earlier this month, McGregor said: “Illegal immigrant rackets are devastated across the country, and Ireland is overrunning in one dive. [to be] Like I said, 40 million Irish Americans need to hear this. If not, there's no place to go home and visit. ”
However, many EU-backed Irish politicians have denounced the fighters for his stance.
The MMA star replied without fear at the voice on the left.
McGregor has supporters.
