Voice of America employees sue Trump administration after agency effectively shut down

Voice of America (VOA) employees filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's administration and Lake Kali on Thursday after President Trump ordered the agency to be demolished earlier this month.

“In many parts of the world, there is no significant source of objective news, leaving only news media sponsored by censored countries to fill the void,” a VOA employee argued in the lawsuit.

Trump signed an executive order in March, ordering to dismantle seven government agencies, including the American global media agency. After winning the election, Trump nominated Lake as a special advisor to a US agency for global media.

“The second Trump administration has entrusted the chainsaw as a whole, trying to shut it down completely,” the lawsuit reads. According to Associated Press.

Musk and Doge have another perfect target: more taxpayer-funded, anti-American media

“The following non-uniform components and functions of government agencies shall be excluded to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law, and such organizations shall reduce the performance of statutory functions and related personnel to the minimum presence and functions required by law,” Trump's executive order read.

Lake has instructed employees to “check emails” for more information about the future of employment in social media posts.

The US Global Media and Lake Agency issued a press release on March 15, stating that the agency “cannot rescue it.”

“From the top to the bottom, this institution is the American taxpayers and the national security risks of this country – and the enormous corruption and burden that is irreparably broken. The press release said.

“It's not just the cold of First Amendment speeches that are happening to VOA journalists. It's the closure of the government of journalism, a pre-determination that kills content before it can be created.” I read the lawsuit.

The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.

“Tradically, Lake Kari lives in a world of Magazine fantasy, but she makes decisions that bring real-world consequences to hundreds of journalists,” said David Seid, a lawyer for VOA employees. I told NPR.
