CBS score bug melts down during BYU-Wisconsin March Madness clash

Viewers were treated for unexpected disruption in the NCAA Tournament matchup between the Wisconsin Badgers and the BYU Cougars on Saturday night.

And it was all courtesy of the CBS score bug malfunction in the second round of madness in March.

Midway through the first half, Wisconsin guard John Blackwell nailed a three-pointer and trimmed BYU's lead 38-27, then went on to become the highest scored 3-pointer of all time.

The graphics on the CBS score suddenly began to spiral out uncontrollably, flashing a rapid sequence of increasing numbers, as if the Badger was quickly scoring points.

The score jumped from 27 to 30 to 33, continuing to grow at three intervals until it reached 51, jumping to 111 to 225 before the score bug was pulled out of the air in real time for more than a minute.

It wasn't just a one-time problem.

The insanity returned late after a Wisconsin 3-pointer. This time it's from John Tonjae.

Once again, the Badgers' scores skyrocketed. This time it lasted until 346 before the score bug disappeared again.

The incident quickly took place online rounds, with fans sharing clips and cracking jokes.

The bug was eventually fixed, but it rarely provided a moment of joy in the fierce tournaments where many college careers were over.

CBS has not made a formal explanation of the error at the time of this writing.
