The $765 million Juan Soto questions that Yankees, Mets can’t escape

Port St. Lucy – They smiled and hugged. Of course, they did. If you're reading this sentence and are a fan of any New York team, you have a much stronger passion for which side of the Bronx/Queens disparity is over than you would wear a uniform.

If you were a Yankee Loyalist at Clover Park on Monday about two and a half hours before the first pitch, you probably saw a traitor in the No. 22 Mets uniform. The Yankees, who formed a greeting committee near the visitor's dugout, saw the businessmen they had fun playing with last year.

Certainly, Aaron Boone told reporters that he told Soto “he looks terrible in that uniform.” But it was a line of laughter, not hostility. Major Leaguers are major leaguers for many reasons. For one thing, this is a game full of failure and therefore most have an almost icy way of sending evil quickly.

As a team, the Yankees took about 24 hours and signed the Mets at Plan B Post Soto. His number 22 was handed out to Dom Smith, who had already passed away. On the occasion, his name arose for six weeks at Yankee Clubhouse, but was usually associated with questions from reporters. That's exactly how the game works. Short memories and limited gratification for those who are good at moving on to the next pitch.
