USPS postmaster general resigns abruptly amid rumors of conflict with DOGE

Postmaster Louis DeJoy suddenly resigned from the US Postal Service amid discussions about a dispute with government efficiency.

On Monday, Dejoy published statement After nearly five years of helm, we confirm his resignation. He argued that under his leadership, USPS has transformed from an “Adrift and Molibund organization” to something with “a path to financial sustainability and high operational performance.”

“We strongly believe that organizations can advance and fully implement many of the strategies and initiatives that make up our transformation and modernization,” DeJoy said.

He described his time at the agency as a true “joy” and “the best achievement” of his professional life. He also said he had warned the governor in February to start looking for a replacement.

“His absence will make the agency vulnerable to dramatic and destructive takeovers by the Trump administration.”

In 2020, DeJoy left the private sector, where he made it. Millions of logisticsrunning USPS at the request of President Donald Trump, who was in his first term at the time.

But time Characterising DeJoy as a supporter of Trump and “GOP Mega Donor,” the outlet has similarly hinted at how he acted as an obstacle to Trump's agenda.

Trump has kept his complaints about the USPS a secret. Last month, he called it a “risqué loser for this country,” and the report has been swirling for months, considering either combining the agency with the Commerce Department or privatizing it entirely.

USPS was able to change its $1 billion profit in the most recent quarter, but lost a whopping $9.5 billion in 2024 alone, and another $6.5 billion the previous year.

Elon Musk And Doge then intervened to help remove the waste of USPS. To that end, Dejoy announced earlier this month that USPS will cut 10,000 people by encouraging employees to voluntarily retire early.

Dejoy has also pledged to further cooperate with Doge's cost reduction plans. “I signed contracts with representatives from the General Services Bureau and Doge to help identify further efficiency,” writes Dejoy. Letters to members of the council March 13th.

“This is an effort that is in line with our efforts. There is a lot to do while we are accomplishing so we are delighted to have others there to support us in our valuable causes.”

But behind the scenes, Dejoy and Doge representatives had difficulty getting on the same page. Doge's agents wanted to control more agencies than Dejoy would be willing to accept, so as a result, Dejoy became “uncooperative” with them, sources told time.

Doge did not respond to requests for comment from Blaze News.

Less than two weeks after some of his employees now encouraged them to take early retirement, Dejoy decided to take away his early retirement himself. Time suggested that he may have done so to prevent further conflict with Doge.

Deputy Post Officer General Douglas Turino acted as the interim post office general until a permanent successor was found, DeJoy was shown in his statement, and the search company has already been assigned to the task.
