Nicolas Aube-Kubel steps in for Rangers’ new dad Sam Carrick

LOS ANGELES – Nicholas Orb Kubel made his Rangers debut in Tuesday's 3-1 defeat to the Kings, stepping into Sam Carrick's lineup at home to celebrate the birth of his son.

Aube-Kubel, 28, played 47 games in 301 games in Washington two seasons ago, played 47 games in 301 games in Washington, and played 47 games two seasons ago.

“He brings certain elements to certain lines,” Rabiolet said before Aube-Kubel took 10 shifts, equivalent to 5:21 ice time. “He's a straight player. He's physical. He can score goals and shoot pucks.

“So we're going to give him the opportunity.”

Alberta native Orb Kubel was bought from Buffalo at the deadline for a minor league contract that defensive man Eric Branstrom reversed.

The Winger was summoned from the Wolfpack on Monday, scoring two points (1-1) in 19 games with the Sabres this season.

Laviolette allowed “experience” to be a factor in using Aube-Kubel. Aube-Kubel was scheduled to play the left wing on the fourth line with Juuso Parssinen and Matt Rempe on the right.

Igor Shesterkin This one matched his best career-straight start.

Shesterkin previously had eight consecutive times from January 8th to February 26th, 2022.

Having given up on two goals with 30 saves, Shesterkin averaged 3-4 with a 0.919 save percentage and 2.33 goals in the last seven starts, 6-6-2 with a .902 save percentage and 2.65 GAA since the NHL resumed on February 22.

The raw numbers don't reflect the netminder excellence behind inadequate defensive plays, despite posting more than .915 save percentages in eight of the last 13 starts.

“Shesty plays very well, so does Quick,” Rabiolet said, referring to Jonathan Quick, who hasn't played since his 7-3 loss to the Blue Jacket in the Garden on March 9th.

“But we're resting, we're ready to go, it's a big game, we need two points, so shesty is the guy here.”
