The Virginia Police Department, looking into the death of former US attorney Jessica Abber, suggests it was likely due to natural causes.
“An inquiry into Jessica Abber's death is currently ongoing, but at this moment, investigators have discovered no proof indicating that her death was attributed to anything aside from natural causes,” stated the police department in Alexandria, Virginia. said in a statement on Tuesday.
Abber, who previously served as a lawyer for the Eastern District of Virginia, was discovered deceased at her residence at the age of 43 over the weekend. Authorities reported they quickly responded to the scene after a call about an unresponsive woman.
Abber had been actively working in the Eastern Region of Biriguinea since 2009 and was appointed as a US attorney by former President Biden in 2021. She received unanimous Senate confirmation and stepped down from her position in January when President Trump assumed office.
Alexandria police mentioned that the investigation is in progress, and the case will stay open until the Chief Inspector's office provides a conclusive determination regarding Aber's cause of death.
“We encourage the public to honor the privacy of Mr. Aber's family during this difficult time,” police directed as medical inspectors were tasked with further updates and inquiries.
Friends of Aber’s family informed NBC News that the police believe she succumbed to long-standing health issues.
