Lawsuit over Trump admin Signal chat leak assigned to Judge Boasberg

The new lawsuit targeting the Pentagon scheme leaked by President Donald Trump in a signal chat has been assigned to Judge James Boasberg, the same judge who ordered the administration to halt its deportation efforts.

The US oversight of the government's Watchdog Group filed a lawsuit Wednesday, alleging that Defense Secretary Pete Hegses and others violated federal records laws by discussing the Houthi attack plan in a signal group chat. The contest is currently randomly assigned to Boasburg, who works for the US District Court in Washington, D.C.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif. urged Boasberg to reject himself from the incident in a statement from Fox News Digital.

“Judge Boesberg has already been demonstrated to President Donald Trump, and his administration is unmistakable and I don't expect Boesberg to reject himself, but I don't think it will be the best arrangement for court integrity,” Issa said.

According to U.S. surveillance, the lawsuit focuses on federal records laws, saying it is “requiring federal officials to maintain communications related to official government operations.”

“In general, agents ensure the retention of messages sent to apps, such as signals, by setting up policies that require them to be forwarded to the official system for official archives or to the official system to maintain content,” he continued.

The lawsuit is named after Heggs. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. CIA Director John Ratcliffe. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the National Archives and the Bureau of Records, as defendants.

The lawsuit points out that it sets up a Signal Group chat to delete messages after a certain time threshold, leading to the possibility that certain records could have been illegally destroyed.

Former federal prosecutor and legal analyst Andrew Cherkasky argued that the assignment of the case against Boasberg was “legally provocative” and could trust the DC District Court “for generations.”

“and [Boasberg’s] The outrageous preliminary ruling under review by the Circuit Court doesn't think it's wise for him to allow more Trump's injunction cases,” Cherkasky told Fox News Digital.

Former Trump lawyer Alina Haba also condemned the lawsuit in a statement to Fox News Digital on Wednesday.

“This is another example of inappropriate judicial political advocacy. The judicial system should not be further weaponized to attempt to divert Americans from the incredible work of this administration and our commitment to national security,” Haba said.

Meanwhile, the White House rejected the allegations that GroupChat members used the app for “war planning” as explained in various media.

Gabbard emphasized during the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday that no information classified in the chat was shared.

“The inadvertent addition of reporters to the signalling chat with high-level national security principles was a mistake, and they had policy discussions on the imminent strikes and the impact of the strike on Houthis,” Gabbard said. “National Security Advisors are fully responsible for this and the National Security Council is conducting a detailed review with technical and technical experts who work to determine how this reporter was accidentally added to this chat.”
