J.J. Watt moving to CBS booth in major NFL media shakeup

Football fans will be seeing the new duo on TV when they take part in some games on CBS this fall.

JJ Watt jumps from the studio to in-game analysts this season and joins Ian Eagle at the broadcast booth, forming CBS's second broadcast team.

Eagle's former partner, Charles Davis, has been sliding into a new role since 2026 as the network's lead college analyst.

Davis will remain a member of the “NFL On CBS” broadcasting team, according to a network press release.

Watt, 36, makes a leap after spending the past two years in the studio as part of his “NFL Today” crew after retiring after the 2022 season.

The five-time All-Pro NFL defensive end acquired the first taste of the broadcast booth on Christmas Day, when he called the game on Netflix alongside Eagle.

“There's nothing better than the energy and excitement of being in a stadium on an NFL game day,” Watt said in a statement. “I couldn't miss the opportunity to get back to that vibe every week. I work with one of the best people in Ian. I'm sure I'll deliver hits on the field, but it's nice to leave the stadium without leaving unless Ian decides to do something crazy.”

Watt spoke about his new gig in a post from X, which wrote, “The new partnership is heading for a hot start,” and included two photos of a hilarious text exchange with Eagle. There, the duo talked about how to prepare for the game.

Watt played 11 seasons in the NFL, spending his first decade with the Texans, then his final two years with the Cardinals.

He is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame vote in 2028.
