Russell Wilson embraces status as Giants ‘underdog’ quarterback

If this is certainly the case, Russell Wilson is in the right place.

“Sometimes, I love the underdog mentality,” the new Giants quarterback said Wednesday shortly after signing. “It was like my approach every day of my life. I don't know, maybe 5 -[foot]-11, people who don't know what it is and tell you that I'm telling you [that] You can't do anything, I love the challenge. I love adversity. I love all of that. ”

Well, Wilson loves to connect with the Giants.

He becomes a loser.

There is no shortage of people to tell him that he cannot.

There are challenges and adversity.

There's all of that.

He is now a bandleader, away from the 3-14 season, the face of the franchise who appears to be trapped in quarterback purgatory, and is forced to bring in the 36-year-old, who is on the downside of an exceptional career.

The Giants signed Wilson a one-year contract, which amounted to a $10.5 million bond, with a $21 million incentive at the top.

Russell Wilson, who played for the Steelers last season, said he loves the fact that he is coming to the Giants as a “loser.” AP

He is now the rookie who leads the eclectic quarterback room with the newly signed Jameis Winston (2 years, $8 million), returning Tommy Devito to the roster, and is probably the chosen rookie at some point in next month's draft.

Last year, Wilson considered signing with the Giants, but they told him Daniel Jones was the starter.

A year later, Jones is gone and Wilson moves.

“I hope I'll be a starter and come here and be ready to rock and roll every day,” he said. “I think this team is really looking for someone to lead them in every way so they can lead them.”

Wilson was his third choice.

The Giants tried to acquire Matthew Stafford in trade with the Rams, then attempting to lure the Jets cast-off and future first borot Hall of Fame Aaron Rodgers.

In the end, the Giants get tired of waiting for Rogers to make up their minds.

“Aaron Rodgers is an incredible footballer. He's done some great things in this league,” Wilson said. “I've been lucky enough to do some great things. Really, what I'm focusing on is what I can do here and now.

“And again, find a place along the way to continue to believe in you.”

The Steelers stopped believing in Wilson after a season.

Wilson must prove the serious recession his career has taken away – a real plunge does not portend things to come.

Many of Wilson's files seem to have been excavated from a bygone era. This was the early days when he ruled the Earth before this current period, when he was trying to stop extinction.

All these admirations and exploits seem a long time ago.

The Giants are his fourth team in the last five years.

His record as a starter after 2021 is 23-32.

Wilson shunned questions about the decline of his game as cleverly as he had avoided becoming a tackler.

“Unless you win everything, you don't feel like you'll do it well,” he said. “That's how I always felt. There were amazing years and a variety of things along the way, but whenever you don't win everything as a warrior and a competitor, I want to say you got it all and did that year.”

There is certainly a chance that the Giants will use the third pick in the quarterback draft. Chedure Sanders could be expected to see Camward as number one for the Titans if he is on the board.

Wilson doesn't sound like his mentorship is high on his list.

“When I draft a quarterback, I make sure he can be prepared for this mentality,” Wilson said. “But for me it's about the winning process. It's focused on winning, and now we can win as quarterbacks for the New York Giants.”

Clearly, Wilson did his homework. He rattled his name after the Giants player.

He is Denver teammates, Giants tight ends Chris Manharts and Greg Dalcich.

He called his new top target, Malik Nabels, “this freak of this athlete.” Wilson called his new head coach Brian Daball “one of the most competitive guys,” referring to Daball's five Super Bowl rings from his days in Alabama and at one national championship.

“He knows greatness. He knows how it looks. He knows how it sounds,” Wilson said. “This guy was the coach of the year, but not too long ago.”

Wilson won the 2014 Super Bowl with the Seahawks at MetLife Stadium, and saw the building when he visited last week and again on Wednesday he sparked something for him.

“It makes you feel like you're in some way,” Wilson said. “I'm excited by the possibilities this team can do.”
