Trump doubles down on need for Greenland ahead of Vance visit

President Donald Trump repeated his argument that the US took over Greenland on Wednesday before Vice President J.D. Vance visited the island.

Trump said his administration “must let them know that Greenland is needed for international security and security. Vance and his wife, Second Lady Ushavance, will visit an island-based US space facility.

Trump went on to say he is not sure if Greenlanders want to become American citizens, but he argued that it is important to convince them.

“We need to have the land because we can't properly defend the majority of this planet, not just the US, so we need to have it and I think we have it,” he said.

JD Vance recalls texting his wife under the table at a Silicon Valley dinner.

The Vice President visits Space Force Guardians at Pituffik Space Base on Friday and says “we'll check what's going on in Greenland security.”

A press release from Vance's office said the base was the “northest installation” of the Department of Defense.

“The Vice President and Second Woman's visit to Pitafik Space Station will be replaced by a previously announced second lady visit to Sisimiut's Avannaata Qimussusu Dogsled Race,” the press release states.

Trump remains optimistic about the odds to win Greenland: “I think that's going to happen.”

“The strategic partnership between the United States and Greenland has long played an important role in our national and economic security. During World War II, the United States established dozens of Greenland military bases to protect the North Atlantic from Nazi invasions.
