WASHINGTON – Elon Musk said Thursday that cutting 1 trillion in federal spending is “very achievable” without affecting the core services offered to Americans.
The Government Efficiency Bureau leader expressed his confidence in achieving his goals in an interview with Fox News Anchor Bret Baier.
“Our goal is to cut the deficit by $1 trillion, so we're trying to reduce federal spending from $7 trillion to $6 trillion from trying to cut the DEF 7 half from a nominal deficit of $2 trillion.”
“At high levels, we want to reduce spending by eliminating waste, so we need to want to cut spending by 15%.
“We are confident that governments can cut 15% without affecting important government services because they are not efficient and there is a lot of waste and fraud.”
Musk, CEO and X owner of Tesla and SpaceX, has been flaring through federal agencies since late January, overseeing massive staff firing and dramatically cuts the spending of agents, including USAID and the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, which are shuttering everything.
It is unclear exactly how much the Doge-led initiative has trimmed so far, as major looming targets, including the Pentagon, remain largely untouched.

Baier said the interview touched on “multiple millionaires” supporting the Doge campaign.
“Airbnb co-founder [Joe Gebbia]for billions of dollars, I essentially volunteer to redo the paper retirement system,” Anchor said in a promotional Fox News appearance ahead of the full interview.
“They have essentially been doing Silicon Valley technology harvesting for computer systems for decades, and what they're finding and listening tonight will blow your mind with some things, the details they're finding.”
