A report from Reuters on Tuesday indicates The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is weighing the merger between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFs) and the Agency for Drug Enforcement (DEA).
In a memo on March 25, Reuters argued that the merger between the two agencies “achieves efficiency in resources, case separation and regulatory efforts.”
Additionally, the memo states that “in addition to potentially integrating the Bureau of Drug Enforcement and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosions, department leaders are considering eliminating field offices that handle antitrust laws, environmental and civil litigation.”

Officials are still seeking feedback from within the department before they can proceed with what current and former Justice Department officials consider to be a critical restructuring. ”
NYT He later added, “The proposal to integrate the DEA and ATF will almost certainly require Congressional approval.”
