Houston – Daniel Murphy can certainly be linked to the challenges facing the Mets' latest infield transformation.
Having rewind almost 20 years, Murphy was the third baseman to rise to an organization that had no chance to play for the Mets position. David Wright has established himself as a franchise player, and it has been revealed to team officials that Murphy and his promising left-handed swing need to find a new place.
The Mets eventually settled in 2 bases after various experiments. Murphy went on to do five full seasons in that position. It was long enough to become part of franchise lore in the October 2015 Power Barrage. Using Homer in six straight games, he set a postseason record to help his team reach the World Series.
Now it's Brett Batty's turn. The 25-year-old third baseman will move to 2 base this spring after Jeff McNeil was sidelined due to oblique tension, and will be looking there for at least the first few weeks of the season. Even if his natural position was blocked by the appearance of Mark Vientos last season, Bati is an opportunity to showcase the brass of the team he can still belong to.
