Grizzlies shockingly fire Taylor Jenkins in midst of playoff chase

The Grizzlies just sent shockwaves through the NBA.

Memphis fired head coach Taylor Jenkins on Friday in an astonishing move, despite having the Western Conference playoff thickness in nine games.

Jenkins, the most won coach in franchise history, led the Grizzlies to fifth place with a stunning 44-29 record.

It is not yet clear why he was released from his duties.

“We are truly grateful for Taylor's contribution to this team and the city over the past six seasons,” Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision given the consistent and concrete development of the players and overall success under Taylor's leadership. I hope Taylor is the best in the future.”

The Grizzlies swayed a bit in the last 20 games, going 8-12, handing over the second species in the West.

Star Ja Morant has played just 43 games this season, regressing slightly, recording low points in his career per game total from 2020-21 onwards.

Jenkins previously won the fifth best odds to win an award in the Draft Kings Sportsbook.
