Steve Moore: 'I'm going to side … with Musk' in Navarro spat

Steve Moore, former senior economic adviser to President Trump, supported tech billionaire Elon Musk's position in public vomiting with White House trade adviser Peter Navarro.

“I'm with Elon Musk now,” Moore said Tuesday on CNN. “So Elon Musk means that tariffs are taxes. They can hurt the economy. We have to have the most productive sector of the economy.”

He is also known as “the biggest entrepreneur in world history.”

Musk and Navarro escalated their ongoing debate about the administration's fundamental tariffs that have been sending shockwaves into the stock market since President Trump announced last week.

Musk recently proposed a “zero riff situation” between the US and Europe, urging criticism from Navarro, who claimed that Musk “didn't understand” in an interview with Fox News on Sunday Morning Futures.

Navarro believes Musk is “great” when he is “in his doge lane,” but suggests that the tech billionaire is protecting his own business interests.

The feud escalated Tuesday when Musk called Navarro “an idiot” due to allegations he made about the Tesla production and the process of gathering.

“Navarro is really stupid. What he's saying here is clearly wrong,” Musk wroteSocial Platform xin response to Navarro's video, which claims that Tesla is not a “automobile maker” but a “automobile assembler” that brings together parts from other countries.

Musk pushed back Navarro's claims, saying Tesla “has the most American-made cars.”

Tesla produces all North American vehicles in the US at its California and Texas plants, some of which are not from the US, but electric car manufacturers may have some protection from Trump's 25% car rates through domestic production.

In an interview with CNN, Moore compared the civil war between Trump's advisors to “Abraham Lincoln and his rival team,” and said he clashed with the path forward in the Civil War, with two advisors claiming about tariffs on public matters.

Moore also said Navarro had “some praise” after going to prison instead of turning on Trump. Navarro was sentenced to four months on January 6, 2021 for refusing to comply with Congressional subpoena related to the attack on the Capitol.

“Peter Navarro figically took a bullet for Donald Trump,” Moore said. “He went to prison for Donald Trump, and that's an incredible act of heroism, in my opinion, to do that rather than deny what the president said at a secret meeting.”

“So I have praise for Peter. I don't think it's okay if you're in this infight, and Trump will ultimately make that decision,” Moore added.
