‘How many men?’ Ted Cruz demands answers from USA Fencing after male athlete was allowed to compete against women

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) asked the national fencing agency why it was not complying with federal orders, giving a clear deadline for responses.

The man competed in a women's fencing tournament in Maryland at the end of March, sparking protests from one female athlete who refused to compete with the man.

Female fencer Stephanie Turner was disqualified from the tournament after confiscating a match against male Redmond Sullivan. Officials say her DQ is due to her refusal to “fence an eligible opponent.”

Worse, as Blaze News previously reported, male fencers have already had great success in the women's division, accumulating two gold medals in just six events. This is despite male athletes reaching third place in a few years despite the highest achievements in the male category.

Senator Cruz decided to write a letter to US Fencing after the ordeal dated April 7th, I asked Why the National Governing Body of Sports was against President Trump Presidential Order That requires female competition for women alone.

“US fencing has brought my attention to how men still allow women to compete in fencing in violation of federal law. I'm writing to ask why,” writes the Texas Republican.

Cruz added that US fencing must comply with Olympic and federal standards to maintain its recognition as a US national governing body.

“If not, and instead continues to put women at risk, Congress could be forced to terminate the NGB certification of USA Fencing,” Cruz warned.

After going in great detail about various cases of violations and inequality against women, the senator noted that male swordsmen have more natural advantages than female competitors.

“Men tend to be taller, have larger muscle mass and have more testosterone, all the benefits of fencing exercises, such as lunges, jumps, or leg power measurements,” explained Cruz.

The senator then gave USA Fencing a deadline of April 21 (two weeks) and responded to his inquiries about the sports conditions for women in fencing. His enquiries included questions such as “A man (or transgender women) is currently competing in the women's sector of US fencing (or trans women) are competing.” And, “Does US fencing transgender and non-binary policies comply with President Trump's EO regarding keeping men out of women's sports?

Cruise also wanted to know how many approved matches occurred between men or between trans women and women, and how many times the men won. He also asked how many times the women suffered from injuries in one of those matches.

Blaze News contacted USA Fencing to see if the organization provided responses to the senators or if there was a general response to allow men to compete in women's sports.

This article will be updated with the appropriate answer.
