“In regards to the transplant itself, she did very well and had no adverse effects. The initial ablation did not cause any acute complications. Then, a second ablation was performed a few days later, after which data was recorded from the electrode demonstrating ongoing seizure activity to ensure that the seizure did not recur, and then a second ablation was performed a few days later.

Clara's story offers hope for others living with drug-resistant epilepsy. This affects about a third of the 3 million Americans with epilepsy. According to Rosa, “The desire to expand ablation therapy to patients suffering from seizures that do not respond to drug therapy was what motivated us.”
