Celery sold at Walmart in nearly 30 states recalled over possible listeria contamination

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), celery sold at Walmarts in nearly 30 states has been recalled because of the potential risk of listeria contamination.

California-based Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. voluntarily recalls the ready-to-eat celery that was washed and ate after random sampling by the Georgia Department of Agriculture at a Georgia store.

Listeria infection can cause fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and in young children it can be fatal for elderly people and immunocompromised people.

It can also cause stillbirths and miscarriage in pregnant women.

According to the FDA, no illnesses have been reported from marketside celery sticks for sale at Walmart with UPC code 6 81131 16151 0.

The stick counts 4 and has a sales date of March 23, but the FDA noted that the buyer may have frozen the celery for later use.

Celery has many codes on the front of the package, P047650.

They have passed their selling date and the product is no longer on sale.

The FDA said anyone who has a product should throw it away. Other Marketside and Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. It said it does not apply to products.

Celery was sold in Alabama, California, Colorado, Washington, DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa and Illinois. Wisconsin, West Virginia, Wyoming.
