Iran and the US envoy have agreed to continue discussions next weekend, following the Trump administration, with the first round of “positive” and “constructive” talks on Tehran's nuclear programme in Oman.
Middle Eastern envoy Steve Wiktov spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci on Saturday in a nearly two and a half hour meeting mediated by Omani Badr al-Busaidi.
Both sides began talking at about 3:30pm local time and finished at about 5:50pm. They were held just outside Muscat, Oman's capital.
Witkov “emphasis” on Araguchi, according to the administration.
“These issues are extremely complicated and direct communications from today's special envoy Witkov was a step forward in achieving mutually beneficial results,” the White House said in a statement on Saturday. “The side has agreed to see you again next Saturday.”
Similarly, Aragachi described the “indirect” speech as “constructive” and “promising”, indicating that it would continue next week.
“The discussion took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect,” Araguchi said on Saturday.postSocial Platform X says, “I have explained Iran's perspective in detail in a solid future-view fashion.
The National Security Council introduced the hill to Witkov's team, but the State Department pointed to a White House statement when it contacted them for comment.
Talks between the two countries come as President Trump repeatedly pushes to reach a new nuclear deal with Iran. Trump in 2018 withdrew from previous agreements, particularly mediated by former President Obama.
However, the White House stresses that new deals should include the Tehran disposal of nuclear weapons.
If an agreement is not reached, the president said there could be a possibility of military action against the country. The warning comes after the US imposed new sanctions on five Iran-based entities and one individual earlier this week to help those oversee the nuclear program.
“I want to be a great, great, happy country for Iran, but they can't have nuclear weapons,” Trump told reporters on Friday in Air Force 1.
Before discussing with the US delegation, Araguchi and Al Busadi met in Muscat, Oman. Top Iranian diplomat Expression He thanked Oman for hosting the lecture and shared that he would “convey the important points and position of Iran's Islamic Republic to his Oman counterparts.”
Prior to high stakes talks, Witkov said the “red line” of the regime with Iran is preventing the Islamic state from thrustting nuclear weapons.
Witkov, who has delegated the leadership negotiators at the ceasefire meeting between Russia and Ukraine, said the demand for the administration to begin is for Tehran to resolve its nuclear program. The same position is also held by Israel, but the envoy said there was room for compromise.
“I think our position starts with the dismantling of your program. That's what we are today,” Witkoff told the Wall Street Journal in an interview. Published Friday. “That doesn't mean that, by the way, we're not going to find any other way to find a compromise between the two countries in margins.”
“We can't weaponize your nuclear abilities where our red lines are,” he said.
Witkov added that if the deal with Tehran is fake, a robust verification process is required to ensure that Iran is not working on producing nuclear bombs. He told the Journal that Saturday's discussions were about “building trust.”
“It's not about the exact terms of the transaction, but about why it's so important for us to get to the transaction,” he said.
