Don't include the newly acquired Joe Milton III in the Cowboys' starting lineup yet.
Three-inning Pro Bowl quarterback Duck Prescott, who missed the last nine games of last season after undergoing hamstring surgery, said he's ready to go home if the Cowboys play in April.
“If I had to play the game today, I would have definitely done it.” Prescott reportedly said Friday at the 35th Annual Children's Cancer Fund Gala. “It's about moving forward with health to make sure I can play 17 times, 20 (games), whatever you get when the time is right.”
A year after finishing second in the 2023 NFL MVP poll and winning a huge contract, Prescott was undoubtedly paced in the worst season of his career, even before suffering a season-ending injury. He had 11 touchdown passes and eight interceptions during the 3-5 start.
Prescott was fresh, signing a four-year, $240 million contract extension just before the first week to become the first $60 million quarterback in NFL history. It increased the stakes he made to guide the Cowboys deeper into the playoffs – something missing from his nine-year resume.
The Cowboys traded their fifth pick for the Patriots and Milton for the seventh pick. Especially since Milton reportedly views himself as a starter who wants to compete for his job.
But Prescott, 31, sounds like he's on the field at OTAS next month.
“I'm getting closer to where I want to be and I don't want to add a percentage,” he said. “I know that team activities are approaching, imagine that they are involved in some, if not all.
“Again, I understand my age, what I had, what I've experienced. It's my best in the fall. So I'm not in a hurry at anything, but I'm where I want to be.”
