I Wouldn’t Feel Comfortable Talking to Obama, Clinton Like I Did Trump, I Criticized Him and He Was Fine With It

On HBO's “real-time” broadcast on Friday, host Bill Maher discussed the meeting with President Donald Trump, saying that Trump is very accepting of criticism, saying, “I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I wouldn't be able to speak to them in a way that would allow me to talk to Donald Trump.” But “it doesn't matter who he is in his private dinner with a comedian. It's important that he is on the world stage.”

Maher said he wants respect, like everyone is, saying that Trump is very different from the person who tweeted negatively about him the day before the meeting.

Maher said, “He's much more self-aware than he was in public. Look, it doesn't matter who is there in a private dinner with a comedian, it's important who he is in the world stage. I didn't like him, everything I liked about him, because I swear to God, and at least existed on this night.”

Maher further said that Trump was genuinely sought his opinion on the nuclear situation on Iran and other issues and received Maher criticism of Trump for ending Iran's nuclear deal. And even when Maher made fun of him, he laughed at the jokes Maher had made.

He said, “I didn't feel like I had to walk on the eggshells around him, and honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I'd never feel comfortable talking to them in a way that would allow me to talk to Donald Trump.”

Maher further said he doesn't think Trump will change his policies.
