Chicago Cancels Cinco de Mayo Parade Fearing ICE Arrests

Event organizers for the Chicago Cinco de Mayo parade have cancelled that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers attended and may have rounded up participants for deportation, fearing this year’s celebration.

The planners have placed their responsibility straightforwardly on President Donald Trump’s immigration policy. They alleged that despite its popularity among American voters, it caused fear in the immigrant community.

“Our people are scary. There’s not much to celebrate,” says Hector Escobar – president of the Casapuebla and Selmac Road Chamber of Commerce, who helped organize the Parade in Mexico. I said ABC 7 Chicago.

Escobar said that some people in his community don’t even want to go to work because they are worried they will encounter an ice officer. He added, fearing that it would create opportunities for ice action through the assembly, “We don’t want to take people out of the festival, from parades to detention.”

Escobar said half of the event’s sponsors have already shown they are reluctant to attend this year before the planners decide to cancel the cultural celebration.

“We could have done it with 50% of the sponsorship, and that’s great, but again, it’s not about money. It’s just about safety,” he said.

Escobar added that he and his fellow community leaders are active assuming they will return next year, but he is not 100% sure that they will do so.

Chicago Police Station cancel The 2024 Cinco de Mayo parade paraded for gang violence, including gunshots fired along the route, but the event eventually resumed in another area. Police said 25 people were arrested during the incident last year.Gun arrest. ”

The parade was not held between 2018 and 2022 due to internal conflicts between Covid and organizers. For example, the rally was cancelled in 2018 after Escobar and his fellow planners spat with the area’s Alderman, George Cardenas in the 12th district, Breitbart News reported.
