President Donald Trump called McIlroy’s game a “surprising” effort, when the Masters of the Masters of professional golfer Rory McIlroy won Sunday.
By acquiring the legendary green jacket, McIlroy became the sixth professional golfer to achieve a grand slam, and at least won all the professional golf majors in his career.
“We have to congratulate Lori,” Trump said. I said When asked if he saw Master of the Year, Fox News reported. “It took incredible courage. He was struggling, but it showed great courage, stamina and courage.”
“People don’t know how tough it is. He’s back. For him, it’s better for him that it happened,” the president said.
Trump also said the Masters was his “favorite sports show.”
McIlroy fought against British golfer Justin Rose. He finished second in the pair’s sudden death playoffs after breaking through McIlroy completely in the main tournament.
In the final hole, Rose only finished with a par, but when McIlroy took his turn he verses the hole and rises.
Trump also praised Rose.
“Justin Rose was amazing,” Trump said. “Look, they’re great athletes under incredible pressure. But unless you’re a golfer, you don’t realize that a hundredth of an inch makes a difference between a great and a scary shot.”
Still, McIlroy’s victory ended a long 11 year drought, during which he had not won a single major trophy. However, winning the Masters finally gave him the grand slam he had been chasing for decades.
