Harvey Weinstein’s Manhattan sex crimes begin Tuesday – a new witness is set to blame the dishonest film mogul for forcing her to an ill encounter at a Manhattan hotel.
A total of three accusers will face imprisoned “pulp fiction” producers whose 2020 convictions were overturned at the time of the appeal at the height of the #MeToo movement.
Two women, Miriam “Mimi” Haley and Jessica Mann, are back up to explain how they were sexually assaulted by Weinstein, 73, a former powerful Hollywood Kingpin, accused by more than 80 women of sexual misconduct.
The third woman, who has not been publicly identified, will testify to her in 2006 when she forced her into oral sex in a Manhattan hotel.
Jury selections begin on Tuesday.
The former Miramax chief was sentenced 23 years later behind bars in the Manhattan case after a dramatic trial in which prosecutors alleged it. Weinstein has won a vulnerable woman They looked for him to advance their careers.
However, New York’s Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the conviction in April 2024, finding that the judge unfairly permitted three additional women to testify despite Weinstein not being charged with the claim.
Weinstein was separately convicted of rape in California after the Italian model testified that he threw himself at her after appearing outside his hotel room at the 2013 Italian Film Festival.
Weinstein is considered the poster boy of the #MeToo anti-sex harassment revolution. His first trial featured dozens of women dancing and chanting outside the courtroom in flash mob protests against sexual violence.
The former studio head lawyer argues that public protests tainted the ju court and obstructed Weinstein’s right to a fair trial.
“Five years ago, when you were here there was a protest. Someone chanted “Flyharvey.”
“There was #MeToo, Oprah Winfrey, and you know, all these people were against him. If they acquitted him for pushbacks from their families and their community, the ju-describers had to be scared,” Aidala added.
“I think it’s overall decline. The stock market crashes and we need to worry about the war overseas. I think that’s a different environment.”
It is unclear whether Weinstein would choose to testify. Three accusers who the appeals court said they were unfairly testified in the first trial in Division 4-3, where opposition judges ripped “intrusive” were not standing up this time.
“We’re going to try a case where we make facts and allegations and do nothing else,” Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Curtis Farber said at a hearing last week.
Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison on two counts of first-degree criminal acts and four years in prison on three-degree rape charges.
His lawyers are expected to argue in court that the woman agreed to a sexual encounter.
