The White House announced a 10% baseline collection in early April with “individualized mutually advanced” tariffs in certain countries.
Then, on April 9, Trump said he would implement a true social, 90-day suspension and apply 10% collection to countries subject to mutual tariffs that have not retaliated against the United States during that period.
“On the contrary, and based on the fact that over 75 countries are calling US representatives, including the Department of Commerce, Treasury and USTR, we will negotiate solutions for subjects being discussed in relation to trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation and non-profit tariffs. A 90-day suspension, and a much lowered 10% per cent during this period, will also be in effect immediately,” he said at the time.
