Senate Democrat says he will go the literal extra mile to bring back illegal immigrant

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) declared this week that he intends to travel to El Salvador to advocate for the release of illegal aliens after failing to secure a meeting with President Naive Bukere while he was in Washington, D.C. on Monday.

Van Hollen says El Salvador citizen Kilmer Armando Abrego Garcia was mistakenly “adjusted” and sent to the largest security prison in the Central American country. Van Hollen also argued that the recent Supreme Court decision meant that the US must bring Abrego Garcia back. The Supreme Court ruled that the US must bring Abrego Garcia home if El Salvador was to hand him over to US authorities.

“I requested [a meeting]. I’ve never heard of it from President El Salvador. And, as I said in the letter, if I haven’t heard from him, and Abrego Garcia won’t come back soon, I’m going to El Salvador this week to show solidarity with his family. As you have shown, the Trump administration itself has admitted that he was accused of being accused of this prison and being sent by mistake, and he should get his legitimate procedure.” I told CNN on tuesday.

“How can I bring him back to the US? So, will I smuggle him into the US?”

“I would like to meet with officials from the El Salvadoran government,” Van Hollen said of his upcoming trip. “I don’t know if the President was in the country at the time, and I would also like to visit this infamous prison to see Abrego Garcia and let him know that his family and friends are very concerned about him.

The US and El Salvador claim that Abrego Garcia is a member of the MS-13 gang. Abrego Garcia claimed in 2019 that he was deported for worrying about the Salvador rival gang that killed him. The only “mistake” in sending him back to El Salvador would be attributed to the stay he got due to the alleged threat, but both the MS-13 and the street gang at No. 18 are no longer national threats due to the crackdown on Bukere’s crimes.

During his White House visit, Buquere revealed that he had no intention of sending Abrego Garcia back to the United States.

“How can I get him back to the US? I’m smuggling him into the US? Of course I’m not going to do that. That… This, the question seems ridiculous. How can I smuggle terrorists into the US? I don’t have the power to bring him back to the US.”
