The two fathers were almost beheaded in front of their wives, and one year after the death of their son, the couple was in the middle of a cross-country trip, leaving them in danger by threats wielding an axe.
Jacob Couch, 32, was sitting on a bus stop bench with his wife Kristen of Tuscon, Arizona, when 25-year-old Daniel Michael stood up to the pair on April 5th.
Michael was said to have been carrying hatches through the downtown area of Tuscon and began screaming at the couple. Kold reported, Citing court records.
“We see your husband almost beheaded and become the only person who will help him fall in love,” Kristen Couch told the outlet.
She recalls what they had just said to a stranger that they had just left when Michael began his horrifying assault on his husband bent to grab a bag.
“I’m still in shock,” Kristen Couch said.
The ruthless Brute cut the artery in half at the neck of the sofa and slammed the skull.
The bloody attack went a mile from the University of Arizona.
Couch was rushed to nearby Banner University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and took life support.
His family fears that he will not survive the injury after doctors diagnose him with an anoxic brain injury that occurred when his brain was deprived of oxygen for a long time.
“He’s not expected to make it now,” Couch’s younger brother Luke said outside the hospital a few days after the attack. “We’re just taking the way we can.”
The couple, who had been married for 11 years, lived in Los Angeles for nearly a year after their son’s death in May 2024.
“We weren’t able to get together like we needed our family, so we were back home,” Kristen said.
They were on their way back to the Arab Arabs, their 13- and 15-year-old daughters awaited them.
They were traveling by bus and were waiting for their next trip at 6 Avenue and Broadway stations.
“He was a very unconfrontational person,” Kristen Couch said. “He wasn’t offensive. He was kind and very kind.”
Michael was identified by police by security guards and captured three days after the attack.
He admitted to being in the area, but refused to attack the couch when police first questioned him.
Officials found hatches and clothes worn by the attackers at Michael’s home.
The accused Brute claimed he was drinking and did not remember contact with the sofa.
The couch’s brothers blow up the suspicious assailant for his brutal actions.
“If you go downtown when you’re drunk carrying such a big machete, you have no other intentions other than to harm someone,” Luke Couch told Kord. “He went there looking for trouble, but it happened to be my brother who wasn’t planning on going home now.”
Michael was charged with aggravated two counts of assault, citing court records, the outlet reported.
Authorities also pointed out that if Couch succumbs to his injuries, including state murder, heavier charges would be filed.
Jail records show Michael is being held at Pima County Jail on $1 million bonds.
