Important Events
Will leaders support longer rentals?
Asked if he is willing to give the renter certainty with longer rentals; Peter Dutton He said this is a problem for the state.
We will support wise reforms. As you pointed out, it’s for the state. It focuses on this election that is better to fix the housing crisis created by this government.
I’ll do it Anthony Albanese Will they put pressure on the state to make sure tenants are more certain? He replied:
We have agreed with states and localities to improve rental rights to provide tenant rights programs, and we have also increased our largest rental assistance by 45% this semester.
He set his sights on the coalition supermarket for housing policy, saying that he “doesn’t do anything for supply” and that he “bids prices like New Zealand.”
Albanese says Labour Party has not commissioned modelling on negative gearing
Anthony Albanese I said Peter DuttonThe proposal that the housing crisis has evolved over the past two years is “nonsense.”
Everyone watching this program knows this has been developing for a long time. Not enough houses have been built. The former government didn’t mind having a housing minister for half the time they were in office. What we did since we took office is to look at the big issues that are supply.
Asked why labour is willing to touch negative gearing and capital gains tax discounts, the prime minister said:
Experts say what it is potentially saying [would] DO does not reduce supply and increase it. So the key to fixing housing problems is supply.
Dutton noted that Labour had modelled this. Asked if modeling had been done, Albanese replied:
Certainly not entrusted by us to do so.
Dutton said this was public information and that PM accused him of “the truth is problematic.”
Will housing policies of major parties raise prices?
The first question was about housing, and did each leader ask if their plans would make the home more affordable or simply make it more expensive in five or ten years?
Anthony Albanese The Labour Party said it has a plan “for supply, not just demand,” referring to Australia’s future housing fund.
You need to do both. It needs to give a fair crack, especially to young people… the key is supply. That’s why only workers are offering plans to increase housing supply in this election.
Peter DuttonNext, he pointed out migration as an issue, accusing them of “competing with people, everyone who wants a home and young Australians to buy homes and rental properties.”
He pointed to the Union’s $5 billion fund to “bring 500,000 new home lots.”
It has a huge advantage on the supply side. The second part is reducing migration by 25%. So we’re going to try it out on young Australians by rebuilding the housing stock and doing so by suspending the purchase of Australian homes for two years.
Albanese says he is “optimistic” about Australia’s future.
The Prime Minister began by saying, “When we seize the opportunity in front of us, we feel optimistic about Australia’s future.”
We have a declining inflation and actual wages are rising. We have an unemployment rate that is very low at just 4.1% and has started to fall in interest rates. They began to rise before the last election. But we know there’s a lot to do…
Anthony Albanese Pointing to strengthening Medicare and unpaid TAFE, he said:
We know we live in difficult times. I’m sure I can see it with the right leadership.
Dutton makes his opening remarks
Peter Dutton He wins a coin toss and makes his opening remarks first. He starts with a general coalition quip – “Are you better today than you did three years ago?”
As I’ve spoken with thousands of Australians, young families, pensioners and small business people, it’s clear that people don’t feel good.
People are facing existential life crisis. People have seen food prices rise by 30%. Their mortgages rose 12 times.
Our plan is to get our country back on track to enable young Australians to once again realize their home ownership dream and manage their economy so that they can curb inflation.
The discussion begins
Discussions will be made between the second leader Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton There are currently hosted kickoffs David Spayer At ABC’s Parramatta Studio.
The prime minister and opposition leaders begin the night with a handshake and stand on two podiums.
Tasmanian workers drop their own distrack following the alliance’s “leaving labor”
Before you jump into the debate, head to Tasmania. There, it continues (unfortunately) that the campaign tracks the insanity.
If you missed it: On Monday, the liberals released “Diss Track,” titled “LeaveLawer,” a homage to the virus feud between rap rivals. Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The lyrics were critical of the labor record on the cost of living, claiming that the economy is “disturbed” and that “egg and cheese” is $100.
Now, Tasmanian Labor Branch has fought back with its own Diss track shared on Tiktok and Instagram. It started:
Your Diss track was in the middle, why should we wait 3 years for it? It’s election time now, but you’re still full… there’s no plans, no clues, no the same.
If you don’t want to listen to the rest of the track, you can do it below.

Palestinian protesters have gathered outside ABC studios in Parramatta ahead of leadership discussions tonight.

Experts are questioning whether tonight’s showdown will shift votes
Anthony Albanese They were judged as winners of the first leader’s discussion. This is the Sky News Host People Forum, where the average voter crowd has raised questions on topics ranging from housing and fuel consumption to GP costs and the Gaza conflict.
Leader discussions are a feature of each campaign, especially billed by the host station, as a make-up or break moment that can turn the campaign. However, campaign veterans have different opinions about how decisive the set piece event is indeed.
