Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt leaves Mets-Twins game after taking foul ball to head

1 base umpire Hunter Wendelstet left Wednesday’s Mets Twins game in Minneapolis after stolen a foul ball rocket from the side of his head at the top of seven innings.

Mets center fielder Tyron Taylor hit the ball and Wendelstet fell to the ground for a few minutes, stepping in and being assisted from the field.

Mets base coach Antoan Richardson immediately sought help when Wendelstead was attacked.

The incident happened in half an innings after Wendelstead first blew a phone that sacrificed the Mets’ run.

Pete Alonso threw it to Jose Batoto, the bailiff who defeated Willi Castro into the bag.

However, Wendelstett was called Castrosef and Batoto, expressing his frustration, allowing Ryan Jeffers to score to raise Minnesota to 3-0.

The replay shows that Castro was clearly out, but the Mets used their challenge early in the game.
