OpenAI in talks to buy AI-coding tool Windsurf for about $3B: report

Openai is in discussions to buy Windsurf, an artificial intelligence aid coding tool for around $3 billion, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday that it cited people familiar with the issue.

The deal is the largest ever, and its terms have not yet been finalized, the report said, adding that consultations could change or collapse.

Openai declined to comment, but Windsurf, formerly known as Codeium, did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

Windsurf was in discussions with investors such as Kleiner Perkins and General Catalyst to raise funds at a $3 billion valuation, the report added.

Last year, it closed a $150 million funding round led by Catalyst, valued at $1.25 billion.

Investor enthusiasm for the artificial intelligence sector has skyrocketed in recent years, driven by the widespread adoption of chatbots and the emergence of sophisticated AI agents.

ChatGpt Maker said it would raise up to $40 billion in a new funding round in March, valued at $300 billion.

Microsoft-Backed Openai improved the infrastructure of its enterprise products last year by gaining search and database analytics launches in 9-digit inventory transactions.
