Several members of the liberal media have spoken out a “real-time” monologue of host Bill Marlow, who had repeated dinners with President Donald Trump at the White House.
He and Trump met face-to-face at a coordinated meeting of their mutual friend Kid Rock, so they did last week’s show at his first show last Friday. Maher called Trump “graceful and measured,” suggesting that the man in the oval office is not the man he’s watching on television by others in the world.
“I didn’t feel like I had to walk on the eggshells around him,” Maher told the audience. “And honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I never feel comfortable talking to them in a way that allows me to talk to Donald Trump.

Conservatives celebrated Maa’s visit to the White House, but many liberals were plagued by his comments.
“Congratulations, @bilmaher. You were played by Trump. Easy Mark. He used you like a fiddle,” Sacak writer Wajahat Ali responded with an X.
“By the way, don’t overestimate Trump to prostitute yourself,” writes former MSNBC host Keith Orberman. “I’ve known Bill since 1978. He was a shameless opportunist without the real principles of the time, and he does.

Leslie Marshall, a Democratic strategist and Fox News contributor, likewise considers Maher’s visit to DC to be purely “selfish,” and links to the post-election Mar-a-Lago visit by MSNBC, who hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, asking “as long as a threat is not considered a ‘threat’, he can break the bread to now.”
“When you overexplain, you’re guilty,” Marshall told Fox News Digital. “Based on the ratings and subscription, I think in a few months we’ll know if this is a bad decision for him.”
The Washington Post was extremely powerful for its trip to the Maher White House. On Monday, he released the story entitled “Trump Charm Bill Maher. Comedian fans don’t think it’s funny.” The report cited comments on social media denouncements against Reddit users and HBO hosts. Many of them are Oakland lawyers who not only vowed to stop watching his show, but also said he lacked “empathy” with people affected by Trump’s policies, such as federal employees who were laid off.
Washington Post columnist clashes with Bill Maher about “falling into a trap” to talk to Trump
Washington Post columnist Leon Krause wrote a piece declaring “Got Got Play” from Trump, comparing his comments about the president to the flattering others gave to Adolf Hitler, Fidel Castro, Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedon about their private interactions.
“By agreeing to meet with Trump, being personally fascinated by his charismatic leader and sharing his soft new take on the president, Bill Maher has done his job of putting Trump accountable for more difficulties,” Crows concluded.
Josh Rogin, a global security analyst for the Washington Post, brought direct criticism to Maher during the “real-time” panel discussion, telling the host that he was a “prop” for Trump’s “PR stunt.”

MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin accused Maher of not realizing that Trump was “using him,” and suggested that Maher fed “the normalization of Trumpism” during his White House visit.
But not all liberals see Maher Trump’s dinner as a bad thing.
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the meeting,” Fox News contributor Richard Fowler told Fox News Digital. “I think it’s very easy to live in a political silo if you stay within the beltway in Washington, DC.”

Fowler said that while Democrat “base” may have something wrong with his encounter with Trump, he must face the current reality that “Republicans control all levers of power,” and expressing their concern directly to him in an oval office conversation means that even if they’re done, it’s worth the conversation.
“It’s a tool in the Democrat toolkit,” Fowler said.
