The NFL Draft is one week and is beginning to take clear photos of what will happen on Thursday. Predicting the first round is always a fool’s errand, as it can clearly blow away everything we thought, but that hasn’t stopped us from editing the information we’ve heard.
Between public media coverage and what we hear behind the scenes, these are the elements of our first round. think As you approach the draft,
More quarterbacks will go in a day than you think
For most of this process, we assume that Camward and Chedure Sanders will be in the top 10, and then it’s a long wait to lead another QB’s name, where the name of another QB is called. That changed last week or so.
Jackson Dart had a lot to look at as the first round, but he even joined Jalen Milllow and potentially Louisville’s Tyler Schaff.
This isn’t a great QB class, but despair leads to unpredictable things. Don’t be shocked if four quarterbacks are taken in the first round.
Pass Rush Dominates the First Round
2024 was the first round quarterback year. Three passersby, Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels and Drake May, left the board to start the first round in that order. Three more quarterbacks joined JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. to mark a new record for the position.
This year it’s about players who were tasked with firing them on Sunday.
There are a few questions in the quarterback group besides Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, but Pass Rusher is a very deep and talented group, with more than seven edges coming out of the board on the first night of the draft. Abdul Carter is probably a selection of three, and there is serious talk of the board, perhaps the fourth of the New England Patriots, Jaron Walker, is off the board.
It’s not just a pass rush that was laughed out during the first round. Michael Williams of Georgia, Shemar Stewart of Texas A&M, Mike Green of Marshall, James Pierce Jr. of Tennessee and Donovan Ezellak of Boston College were also popular picks in the first round.
Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton can also sneak into the first 32 picks.
Expect to hear many pass rushes off the board on the first night of the 2025 NFL Draft.
No. 8 Carolina could be a pivot point in the draft
The Panthers’ main need is pass rush help, increasing the chances that Carolina misses Jalen Walker on No. 8 and pushes him into the second apron for pass rushing.
Their pick just happens to be in front of QB Needy New Orleans saints. love That Shedeur Sanders (and perhaps even Jaxson Dart) are there on their pick. This makes it very likely that someone will jump into a Carolina pick and try to land QB.
The player trade market is quiet…too quiet
There is not much talk about veterans being traded at the moment. It feels like something can really pop out on draft night. The players we see here are Bengals de Trey Hendrickson, Dolphin CB Jalen Ramsey and Vikings WR Jordan Addison wild cards.
These are three players who will attract a lot of attention from the right team if the board doesn’t break how the team wanted.
