But win? Tottenham will be just three games from silverware and the promise of the Champions League. And should they qualify for Europe’s elite competition next season – with all the riches and prestige that that entails – then the season, and Ange’s job, will be saved. In a footballing world full of permutations and and and is a thrill (for the neutral, at least) for things to be so binary.

Things are a little rosier for Frankfurt, and not only because they survived the Tottenham onslaught last week to escape the first leg with a 1-1 draw. Now, with the second leg at home, the German side are probably favourites to progress to the last four. This is a club with serious pedigree – the Eagles won the Europa League in 2022 under Oliver Glasner (beating Rangers on penalties in the final) and are currently third in the Bundesliga, well on course to qualify for the Champions League. Tottenham might shout about how ‘the game is about glory’ (and not ‘meeting PSR requirements by qualifying for the Champions League’) but for Frankfurt, the Europa League really is just about winning a major trophy.

Spurs should be thankful that Omar Marmoush made the January switch to Manchester City but in Hugo Ekitike, Eintracht have another of the most exciting young forwards in Europe. Signed from PSG in 2024, in effect replacing Randal Kolo Muani who had gone the other way a year previous. From André Silva, Sébastien Haller, Kolo Muani, Luka Jovic, Frankfurt certainly know how to pick a striker, and Ekitike is the latest off the wagon. With 21 goals in all competitions this season, he’s very good in front of goal, and very nervous when petting the club’s mascot, Attila the eagle.

Important Events
Europa League It was undoubtedly strengthened by the qualifying rounds for the Champions League, the Champions League, which was first introduced in 2014-15. The only thing is that in certain cases the glory of winning a European trophy can sometimes feel a bit shadowed by the same carrot.
For example, for Manchester United, who has a proud history of winning the European Cup/Champions League, adding another Europa League doesn’t mean much to trophy cabinets/boards/fans, despite all the noise about creating a winning habit. However, Champions League qualifications are invaluable. United are active in their own quarterfinals tonight, remember against Lyon. You can follow Scott Murray here.
Tottenham is another beast. They are not in the Newcastle-level silverware drought, but winning the Europa League will be their biggest scalp in at least 34 years (1991 FA Cup), and perhaps return to the 1984 UEFA Cup victory.
This is Post Coglo I had to say in the lead up to tonight’s game:
Because I don’t define my career and me as a person, by what people think about me. I never have it. Never do that. If you don’t think I’m a good coach today, even if we win, you wouldn’t think I’d be a good coach tomorrow. One game is not going to make a difference. You think I can do the job now or you don’t.
That’s where I sit with these things. If people think that we will win tomorrow will suddenly become a better manager than today or a better manager than losing tomorrow, then I somehow make me a worse manager. I don’t think so, and I don’t think most people think so. Or they want to think that is not the case in terms of their own self-esteem and who they are as people. I didn’t really care.
preamble
The quarterfinals are rarely highly decisive for a team’s season or the future of a manager. Once Tottenham loses this game and ends the Europa League, their season will definitely end, and it will almost certainly spell out the end of Anjipost Ecoglu’s tenure. The Spurs are 15th in the Premier League and are mathematically unsafe from relegation, but with the exception of Pride, they have nothing to play domestically. The N17 manager is launched with a much better record than that.
But will you win? Tottenham is a promise of three Silverware games and the Champions League. And if they compete in the European elite competition next season – with all the wealth and fame that comes with it – the season and Angi’s work will be saved. In a permutated world of soccer, and (at least for neutrality), it’s a thrill for things to be very binary.
Things are a bit rosy for Frankfurt. It’s not just to help them survive the Tottenham onslaught last week and escape the first leg in a 1-1 draw. Well, with the second leg at home, the German side is probably my favorite to go to the last four. This is a club with a serious pedigree. The Eagles won the Europa League in 2022 with Oliver Grasner (who beat the Rangers in the final in the penalty) and are currently third in the Bundesliga. Tottenham may scream about “the glory thing” that “the game doesn’t meet PSR requirements by competing in the Champions League”, but for Frankfurt, the Europa League is really just winning major trophies.
The Spurs should be grateful that Omar Marmash switched to Manchester City in January, but in Hugo Ekicchike, Anthracht has another of Europe’s most exciting young forwards. It signed from PSG in 2024 and effectively replaced Randal Kolo Muani, who went the opposite way a year ago. André Silva, Sébastien Haller, Kolo Muani, Luka Jovic and Frankfurt certainly know how to choose a striker, and Ekitike is the latest wagon.
