Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Director of Health and Human Services. It is listed On Wednesday, the agency will study several potential “environmental factors” that may be linked to autistic spikes.
Kennedy’s announcement sparked a fierce social media conflict among parents. Some supported his efforts to discover the cause, while others sought the dignity and acceptance of people with disabilities.
“He has no problem. f**k you rfk.’
At a press conference Wednesday, Kennedy shared autism statistics, warning that “prevalence is rising at an astounding rate.”
” [autism spectrum disorder] He said that the prevalence rate for 8 years is currently one in every person, referring to a study that looked at children born in 2014.
Kennedy explains that American boys have “extreme risks” and says there is one in 20 chances of being diagnosed, and in California those statistics jump to one in 12.5 people.
He highlighted the upward trend in “severe” cases.
“Around 25% of children diagnosed with autism are nonverbal, non-toilet training and have other stereotypes,” Kennedy said.
He called for the media to “dead denial” and urged Americans to move away from ideology, suggesting that better diagnosis or changes could explain an increase in autism. The HHS Secretary read out the results of several studies to support his claim.
“Obviously there are people who don’t want to see us exposed to the environment,” Kennedy said. “We know it’s environmental exposure. Genes don’t cause epidemics. They can provide vulnerability, but they require environmental toxins.”
Kennedy continued his speech by stating that failing to examine environmental toxins has hurt families and promotes an increase in autism among young people.
“Autism destroys our families. But more importantly, it destroys our biggest resources, our children. These are children who should not suffer like this. Many of these are children who function perfectly and regressed due to some degree of environmental exposure to autism at the age of two,” he said.
“These are kids who don’t pay taxes. They won’t do their jobs. They will never play baseball. They will never write poetry. They will never go out on dates. “And we have to realize that we are doing this to our kids.”
He announced that HHS will conduct research to determine whether environmental factors, including ultrasound, mold, pesticides, food chemicals, medicines, or air and water contamination, are associated with autism and, if so, remove those toxins.
While some parents praised Kennedy for his dedication to finding the cause of his disability, he found his statement during his speech on Wednesday to be extremely insensitive.
Variety “My son is not trending. His father responds to RFK Jr.’s dangerous autism rhetoric.” The author called Kennedy’s speech “scientifically false and intentionally offensive.”
axios He published a work titled “People with Autism Seek the Dignity RFK Wants for Treatment.” Social media users attacked comments on news outlets.
“Why not give dignity and “treatment”? “An individual wrote.
“Can’t we do both?” Another echo.
Kennedy’s critics cut and shared some of his speeches, listing how a serious form of autism forced the inevitable disadvantage of children. His detractors appeared to believe that his comments had expanded even for those with the mildest disabilities, such as high-functioning individuals.
“For my daughter, autism isn’t like that [superpower]. ‘
1 Social Media User I wrote it“I’m not sharing that RFK Jr. video another. People with autism deserve understanding and acceptance.”
father Posted Video of his autistic son playing piano.
“He teaches piano himself and learns songs by ear. He learned to read at age 2. He is in the 94th percentile for math. There is a challenge, but he is the best [in] My life,” he wrote. “He has no problem. f**k you rfk.”
One mother It is listed“My son, who has autism, is an eighth-grade math teacher, has a girlfriend, pays taxes and contributes to society. RFK doesn’t know about autism.”
None of Kennedy’s critics appeared to be working on the research he cited during his speech. However, despite their unaware of the cause of autism, they seemed convinced that environmental factors could not be held responsible.
Another mother described herself as “not” [RFK Jr.] fan,” I defended A statement from the HHS secretary.
“He explained to his children who were called “serious” or “severe” autism at a press conference. I have already seen a lot of pushbacks about things like “children with autism aren’t like that.”
“For my daughter, autism isn’t like that [superpower]. It makes her life very difficult. She has a hard time communicating her needs. It’s difficult to get involved in things with other kids,” she continued.
She criticized those who argued that autism was “not a disease,” saying that “it’s debilitating for my child.”
Other social media users I responded Her post questioned whether “spectrum” would be applied to autism diagnosis, causing great damage to people with more severe forms of disabilities.
