Acting IRS commissioner replaced after Bessent, Musk spar: Reports

IRS Commissioner Gary Shapley has left the agency amid discrepancies between Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent and Presidential Advisor Elon Musk, multiple media outlets reported Friday.

The exile comes after a complaint from Bescent to President Trump about Shapley’s appointment made without Bescent’s approval at the request of a mask. The New York Times reported.

Shapley got to work after a push by the White House Channel by Musk’s government’s cost reduction panel.

Reforms in the IRS are the latest in a series of political battles involving institutions since President Trump took office.

Disputes in government agencies include the use of taxpayer data to suppress immigration, access to American financial information through the government’s cost-cutting panel, requesting an audit review request for one of Trump’s friends, and tax-free status at a major American university that refused to donate to Trump’s request.

The IRS has a series of different temporary leaders after Trump’s last confirmed commissioner, Danny Werfel, fired former President Biden’s appointee, Danny Werfel.

Deputy Director Michael Folkender will take over for the Journal and Shapley of the Times, each reporting.

Shapley got favourite with Republicans Criticizing government investigations Congressional testimony to Hunter Biden.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) praised Shapley and another whistleblower in March, announcing his promotion to leadership position in the Treasury Department.

“Gary Shapley and Joe Ziegler put their entire careers on the line,” Grassley said.
