Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said Sunday in NBC’s “publications” that President Donald Trump has put the United States in a constitutional crisis over the Kilmer Abrego Garcia incident.
Host Kristen Welker said, “You mentioned the court considering the fact that the Supreme Court ordered Abrego Garcia to promote the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia. Abrego Garcia remains in El Salvador. Do you think the Trump administration is ignoring the court?
Van Hollen said, “Oh, yes, we are. They are fling the court as we speak. To promote his return means more than nothing, they’re doing nothing. Yes.
Welker said, “If this is, as you say, a constitutional crisis, what should the reaction be like from the Democrats? What kind of control do you have?”
Van Hollen said, “Well, we’ll keep pushing back. Again, the courts can impose sanctions on the Trump administration. The Trump administration will pay $15 million to bring these prisoners, including Abrego Garcia, who were illegally accused of the El Salvadoran government. Someone is illegally and violating the US Constitution.”
