The Trump administration is expected to meet with South Korean officials in Washington, D.C. this week. This is because it appears that the country will enter into a tariff contract with Trump after the country was hit by a 25% mutual tariff during the announcement of its “liberation date” on April 2nd.

“We are the first to work on the Big 15 economy and we had a great meeting with Japan yesterday. I think we have already had a call with the EU. And South Korea will be coming next week. And I think India is talking too. It’s moving very quickly.”

Financial markets are screaming about Trump’s tariffs

Trump placed a 90-day suspension on mutually customized tariffs he imposed on dozens of countries on April 9. At the same time, the Trump administration raised the ante on China’s tariffs to 125%.

Now, administrations, including Trump, are jumping into negotiations with foreign countries to attack deals that are beneficial to the US and lower the country’s chronic trade deficit.

South Korea confirmed on Sunday that authorities will visit Washington, D.C. later this week. South Korean Minister Choi Sang-Mok and Trade Minister Anne Duk Gae-woon will specifically meet with Bescent and US trade representative Jamie Son Greer, according to Reuters.

Last week, Trump signed an executive order aimed at “restore the competitiveness of American seafood” by strengthening US fishing and prioritizing commercial fishing, cutting off the deficit in handcuffing places where fishermen hang nets.

Trump previewed executive action, particularly related to Maine’s lobster industry, will land on his desk this week.

“I did that last time in Maine [the Biden administration] I’ll put it back. Trump said from his oval office last week he will focus on Maine’s lobster industry by previewing the next executive action related to fishing.

Under his first administration, Trump cut down Obama-era regulations that prevented lobstermen from fishing in certain areas that include 5,000 square miles of federally protected water off the coast of Cape Cod.
