Northern border sector previously overrun by illegal migrants sees dramatic drop in crossings

The illegal intersections along the busiest section of the US-Canadian border covering parts of New York, Vermont and New Hampshire have plummeted thanks to President Trump’s immigration crackdown.

In March, just 54 immigrants were arrested in the Swanton sector, which spans approximately 300 miles. According to US Customs and Border Patrol, this is a dramatic 95% drop from the 1,109 border intersections captured in March 2024.

The region recorded more than 80% of all unrest along the northern border during fiscal year 2024. According to CBP figures.

Under the Biden administration, illegal intersections at the northern border reached record highs as immigrants were released to the US.

In the Swanton sector, more than 1,400 border intersections were arrested in April 2024. According to CBP figures, the totals have been added from 2021 and 2022.

When Trump returned to the White House, he ended the use of the troubled “catch-and-release” border policy and launched a massive deportation effort.

Northern Border residents told the Post they noticed the change as the intersection of immigrants on their property, once very common under Biden, became a halt of screeching.

“I haven’t seen anyone since November, and I didn’t have to scan the yards in the evening and morning,” said Daniel Cowan, who lives along the border of Chateau Guy in the countryside of New York, a town of 1,900 residents.

The dramatic decline in the northern border intersection is consistent with a decline in immigrant encounters along the US-Mexican border.

Border agents patrol the southern border were at the lowest level on record in March, with around 7,100 illegal immigration intersections.

This is down 94% from the 137,000 people poured across the border in March last year.
