Executive producer April Blair spoke with Netflix Tudum On the deeper meaning of the town:

Is Ransom Canyon a real place?
Ransom Canyon is a real place. It is a town located in Lubbock County in northwest Texas.
However, fans do not need to travel to the real ransom canyon to see where the show was filmed. According to Tudum, the series was filmed remotely in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and New Mexico.
Blair told Tudum: “Most of New Mexico is Adobe architecture. This small, old mining town in northern New Mexico is ironically very close to the Texas border called Las Vegas, which looks like a Texas town.
The area provided a very western feel and seamlessly recreated Texas.
Tudum also reported that show leads Duhamel and Kelly share rural backgrounds. Duhamel grew up in Minnesota and Kelly grew up in Albuquerque. This gave them a deeper appreciation for their commitment to details regarding where the show was filmed.
Kelly explains how she is deeply connected to her character and her hometown, telling Tudum:
She added, “It’s the same for Quinn. She added, “New York was great, but I feel that I really feel that it’s portrayed in my hometown, and I have a responsibility to give back.” ”
