Ambassador Mike Huckabee Presents Credentials In Israel: ‘Welcome Home’

Ambassador Mike Huckabee officially presented his diplomatic qualification to Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Monday amid a warm welcome in the country that he has visited dozens of times since the early 1970s.

“Welcome,” Herzog said that Huckabee had already been a dear friend of Israel for many years.

Huckabee explained that he was humbled in his own remarks, and that he did not campaign for work or approach Donald Trump until after the election until he received a call from the presidential election. He split some jokes at his own expense and commented that Dr. Miriam Adelson, the widow of the late Israeli casino’s large Sheldon Adelson, may have advised Trump to choose Huckabee if no one else wanted the job.

He was the first evangelical Christian to maintain his job, and has long adhered to the views of stubborn ProIsrael. Some of them were targets of anti-Israel members of Congress, such as Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD). Huckabee, for example, states that Israel has legal and biblical rights to Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).

Huckabee officially visited the West Wall on Sunday, prior to the credentials ceremony. He and President Herzog also acknowledged and lamented Pope Francis’ death a day after Easter.

Several other ambassadors also announced their qualifications at events that include the Canadian ambassador.
