Megin Kelly criticized Pope Francis for his stance on immigration just hours after the Vatican announced the Pope’s death Monday.
Former Fox News host and Catholic practice, Kelly unleashed acute criticism of Pope Francis’ leadership and political stance, particularly on immigration.
Francis, 88, died early Monday from a brain stroke and heart failure.
By the afternoon, Kelly had released a new episode of her SiriusXM podcast, “The Megyn Kelly Show,” where she accused the Pope of moving the Catholic Church “to the left.”
Kelly criticized the church’s efforts to support undocumented immigrants, suggesting that those efforts have forced American citizens to “address” the outcomes.
“The church has been involved in getting immigrants here and helping them find their homes and stay here, regardless of the fact that they are illegally here,” Kelly said.
“And Pope Francis didn’t have to deal with that. I’m wondering what many of us donate on Sundays at the Catholic Church.”
Conservative Catholics like her own said they found themselves in a “tug of war” between the pope’s message and what he wanted to believe in is a “tug of war” between the deep Catholic teachings and what we understand as an American who has seen our citizens being murdered on the streets by these people.
According to Kelly, “funding illegal actors entering the country” is just too much a step.
“They are not all outstanding Catholics,” she adds, contrasting with the traditional mission of the church and what she considers a political overreach.
During the Pope, Pope Francis frequently condemned President Trump’s policies, particularly the planned construction of walls along the US-Mexico border.
He condemned such a move as an act of “cruelty” and called the deportation of migrants a “serious crime.”
Up until the 2024 US presidential election, the Pope encouraged Catholics to vote according to their conscience and choose “less evil.”
In response to these positions, Vice President JD Vance summoned the concept of medieval Catholicism Aldo Moris – A hierarchy of care that begins with the family and appears to spread outwards.
However, Francis addressed this interpretation in a letter to the American bishop in February, opposing theological reading.
“Christian love is not a concentric expansion of interest that extends to some extent to other people or groups,” writes Francis.
“The true Ordo Amoris, who must be promoted, is something we discovered by constantly meditating in the parables of a good Samaritan.
Despite theological disagreements, Vance briefly met with the Pope a day before his death.
But Kelly stayed firmly on Trump’s side in the immigration debate.
“Trump was very dedicated to driving away these people that Pope Francis deemed vulnerable and vulnerable,” she said.
“Do you know who’s vulnerable and vulnerable? L’Eken Riley,” she added.
Although highly critical, Kelly ended her remarks with a note of reflection.
“He would have only sympathized with those killed by these illegals,” she said.
Meanwhile, 77-year-old Cardinal Kevin Farrell assumes temporary control of the Vatican issue as Camerlengo. This is the role of overseeing the daily operations of the Church and coordinating the transition to the next Pope.
Francis, split from tradition, demanded burial at Santa Maria Magiore in Rome, not St. Peter’s Cathedral, and became the first pope of over a century to be buried outside the Vatican.
