Trump admin shuts down media narrative on ‘deportation’ of German teens who were visiting US

The Trump administration dismantled media narrative reports of what appears to be the abuse of a German teen while attempting to visit the US

The teens said they were questioned and falsely accused of violating immigration laws while visiting during a backpacking trip around the world. The New York Post’s story alleged they had been given an order to expel them.

“We didn’t think it was happening to the Germans. …We felt very small and helpless.”

On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security issued it statement Social media justifies that behavior. The statement responded to a New York Post headline on the story.

“Another false story. These travelers were not deported. They were denied entry after pretending to be false and attempting to enter the United States,” the department said.

“One used a visitor visa and the other used a visa waiver program,” they added. “Both claimed they were touring California, but later admitted that they intended to work. These visas are strictly prohibited under US immigration law.”

Posts It has been deleted There was a post about social media after the DHS statement, but the article was Report About claims from teenagers.

Maria Leper, 18, and Charlotte Paul, 19, arrived in Hawaii on March 18th, and were planning to eventually go to Los Angeles and Costa Rica. Instead, they were questioned by US officials and detained before being denied entry.

Paul told the German news outlet that authorities distorted their words in their official reports.

“They contained sentences we didn’t actually say,” she said. “They twisted it and made it look like we admitted we wanted to work illegally in the US.”

Paul said customs and border security are suspicious as the teenagers did not have hotel accommodations for their five-week stay in Hawaii.

“We wanted to travel spontaneously, just like we did in Thailand and New Zealand,” she insisted.

They were also upset about their treatment and the condition of the detention center.

“We had to be searched by a metal detector, scanned our entire body and watched standing naked in front of the officer,” Paul continued. “Then we were given green prison clothes and put in prison with serious criminals.”

They said they were very cold and were warned by security guards not to eat expired cheese while eating, and were detained along with someone who had been jailed for 18 years for murder. Paul said they knew about Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, but they didn’t expect to be affected during the visit.

“It was a shock. We didn’t expect it. We were already aware of a bit of what was happening in the US,” Lepere said. “But at the time we didn’t think it was happening to the Germans.”

She added: “It was probably very naive. We felt very small and helpless.”
