Alabama mother and her five-year-old son were killed in a fatal shooting. According to police, the woman gave the final hint of her murderer’s identity at the last moments of her life.
On July 13, 2024, police received a 911 call regarding a car accident in the Echo Highlands area of Birmingham, Alabama.
“She loved her baby so much. He had everything he wanted.
Officials from the Birmingham Police Department responded to the scene and found a blue Nissan Maxima jumping over the curb. The sedan was reportedly plagued by bullet holes. Three shooting victims were reportedly found dead inside the vehicle.
Investigators reportedly found 28-year-old Alkia “Kia” Berry in the driver’s seat, 28-year-old boyfriend Eric Ashley Jr. in the passenger seat, and 5-year-old son, Randin Brooks, in the back seat on the driver’s side.
Investigators recovered 20-30 shell casings at the crime scene.
He was sentenced to Birmingham during a preliminary hearing on April 17th. Jarvelius Tolliver testified to the judge that investigators found evidence found on Berry’s mobile phone.
Police went for several months without arresting the suspect. However, investigators discovered the last word text message from their mother, who allegedly instructed the officer to the suspect.
al.com Berry reported that he texted the word “jaco” to a friend at 5:09pm on the day of the deadly shooting. “Jaco” is the reported nickname for 25-year-old Jacorrian McGregor.
One of the neighboring houses where the filming took place had a surveillance camera that took images of the soul of a lime green kia at 5:07pm.
At 5:08pm, the blue Nissan Maxima driven by Berry can be seen in the video.
At 5:09pm, Ashley’s phone called McGregor at exactly the same time that Berry texted “Jacco” to a friend.
At 5:10pm, Kia Soul reportedly was speeding up his camera from the neighborhood.
Tolliver said he had not seen any Nissan Maxima since then.
Police say Kia’s soul, seen in the video, has been stolen.
The KIA owner reportedly told police that the car had been stolen five to six days before the shooting, but never reported it was stolen.

Tolliver said McGregor and Ashley exchanged text messages early on the day they showed they were planning to meet up.
Officer Toliver pointed out that most of McGregor’s cell phone text messages had been deleted from the day of filming.
“But he had some conversations with people talking about the incident that took place, and there were people who were telling him to lie low on him, invisible and remain hidden.”
McGregor’s lawyer, John Robbins, was asked if there were any witnesses who could tie McGregor together, and Toliver replied: “I would say Miss Berry was a witness.
Police officer Truman Fitzgerald said al.com Last year, “We believe that some kind of interaction occurred between the victim’s vehicle residents and the suspect.”
Jefferson County District Judge William Bell found there was a possible cause that could be sufficient to send the case to the Great Ju trial.
McGregor was ordered not to be held at the Jefferson County Jail.

Officer Fitzgerald said at the time of the shooting, “Whenever we have a murder, it affects us. But when you have a child, it affects you differently. In this case, we have a small school-age child who has been caught up in the violence that is happening in the city.”
