CLEVELAND – At the stadium where the Yankees were placed on wide shoulders last October, Giancarlo Stanton stepped up to the plate Tuesday to test his elbow.
The Yankees slugger practiced field batting for the first time at Progressive Field as he continues to try to make a comeback from the illness that has been on his sidelines since the spring, rehabilitating his tennis elbow with both arms.
“They’re getting better,” Stanton said of his elbow after several batting practices.
Stanton has been attacking indoors from a high-speed trajectory pitching machine for the past few weeks, but on Tuesday he checked another box to finally begin his rehabilitation assignment, but he still doesn’t know when it will start.
First of all, he needs to move forward in facing live pitching.
“I usually don’t hit the field all the time, so I bumped into it,” Stanton said. “Jump out here and feel what my job is and build it that way.”
Stanton, who also dealt with minor calves at camp, has recently started running.
“I’m moving around, and I’m trying to get a full day of makeshift spring training,” Stanton said.
It was somewhat surprising to see Stanton travel to Cleveland with the Yankees rather than returning to Tampa.
However, the veteran DH has shown that being around the team is important to him so he can get used to his regular season schedule and become a resource for his teammates.

“Preserve long schedules, maintain meetings, routinely, practice practice times. [when I return]Stanton said.[Being in meetings] The only way I can contribute now is, yeah, that’s important. I feel like I have to do that to stay engaged. And information or messages, or help I can give to a man, [I will]. ”
