Local officials say the 16-year-old was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed by a classmate at a high school in northern Virginia.
The student was stabbed by a 15-year-old boy when three students got caught up in a fight inside West Potomac High School in Fairfax County around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The 16-year-old student was rushed to a local hospital where he was seriously injured, but is now recovering steadily.
The unidentified assailant was detained and charged with malicious injuries, police said. The knife was retrieved at the scene. There were no notable suspects in the “isolated” incident, officers said.
The third student was questioned by police, but Davis doesn’t expect him to be charged with the crime.
The disturbing footage circulating between the students’ bodies shows students brawling in the hallway, According to NBC Washington. Another image reportedly shows a student and an adult hovering on the floor with a teenager bleeding.
The stubbar and the victim were known to each other, officers said.

The school remains open and students have returned after the stab wound, according to Michelle Reid, Fairfax County Public Schools superintendent.
“There’s clearly a sense of shock that this will happen, but I’m extremely proud of the staff’s response to this incident,” she said.
The school had no metal detectors installed, Reid confirmed.
