The Global Workplace Status: 2025 Report, which includes data for 2024, states that 52% of employees in the US and Canada have been “prospering” since 56% in 2023.
The four-point decline represents the biggest decline since 2011, when Gallup first included data on local “prosperous” employees.
Between 2011 and 2019, the region’s “prosperity” employee share rose between 59% and 62%, with no change in points of more than 1% in a given year.
In 2020, the share of “Prosperity” employees fell three points to 58%. In 2021, only 58% of the total. In 2022, it fell to 57%. 2023, 56%. In 2024, it reached 52%.
The report shows that 44% of employees in the US and Canada are “struggling” in their lives – an increase of 3 points from the previous year – 4% is “suffering”, an increase of 1 point from the previous year.
This report contains data from around the world and from different regions.
The “US and Canada” region ranked third among the regions with the highest percentage of “thriving” employees, even if the region saw flooding over the past few years.
In first place, Australia and New Zealand “prospered” despite seeing a four-point DIP since 2023. Second place, Latin America and the Caribbean had 54% of employees “prosper,” up four points from the previous year.
Globally, 33% of employees report “prosperity” in their personal lives, 58% report “struggling” and 9% report “suffering.” Globally, the share of “prosperous” employees had steadily increased between 2017 and 2022, but fell to 34% to one point in 2023, and in 2024 it reached 33% to another point in 2024.
In this study, respondents were asked to rate their lives by imagining the “zero to ten bottom” where “steps from zero to top top 10” represent “the best life for you.” Gallup asked respondents to show which steps on the ladder they feel they are currently standing, and which steps on the ladder they expect to stand five years later.
Those who rate their current life above 7 will be classified as “prosperity” in addition to their future life above 8. People who rate their current and future lives on a level of 4 or less are “suffering.” Everything else is “struggling.”
The total number of globally employed respondents included in the 2024 data is 227,347.
The survey was conducted from April 2024 to December 2024. Due to global results, margins of error ranged from 0.05% to 0.08% points. By country, margins for errors ranged from 0.26% to 2.36% points.
