Two Killed, 54 Wounded In Russian Missile Attack On Kyiv

Kyiv:

At least two people were killed and 54 injured after a missile attack on Kiev early Thursday, the mayor said.

Ukrainian authorities issued warnings of missile attacks, and AFP journalists have heard of the explosions throughout the capital.

“Kiev is being attacked by enemy missiles,” city military authorities said in a telegram.

Hours later, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said “two people have died in the capital.”

“54 people were injured. 38 people were hospitalized, including six children,” he said in a telegram post.

It was seen by an APP journalist in a bomb shelter set up underground in a residential building that housed more than dozens of residents after the air alert began.

Kiev was last hit by a missile in early April when at least three people were injured.

Since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022, it has been a target for sporadic attacks.

In the east of Ukraine, the city of Kharkiv was attacked by seven missiles, Mayor Igor Telekov said, adding that a “massive drone attack” was ongoing on the city.

“Keep it safe!” Telekov said.

Andri Yamak, the top aide to Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky, said Russia was attacking Kiev, Kharkiv and other cities “now with missiles and drones.”

“Putin only shows his desire to kill,” he said. “Attacks on civilians must cease.”
