Federal judge blocks Trump from pulling federal funding from sanctuary cities

Federal judge issued An injunction against the Trump administration over attempting to withdraw federal funds from local governments with sanctuary policies.

Sixteen cities and counties have filed lawsuits after President Donald Trump issued an executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondy and Secretary of Homeland Security Christie Noem to end federal funding for the sanctuary city.

The lawsuit alleged that the order violated the constitutional separation of power by infringing on the power of the wallet granted to Congress.

US District Judge William Ollick on the side of the city and county on Thursday blocked the administration from enforcing local government orders in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleged that the order violated the constitutional separation of power by infringing on the power of the wallet granted to Congress. He also alleged that the order violated the 10th Amendment by ordering local officials to enforce federal immigration laws and was ambiguous in relation to the Fifth Amendment.

Oric agreed to the lawsuit and made a joke as he issued a similar ruling during Trump’s first term.

“I’m here,” he said.

The Trump administration appealed the 2017 decision, which was upheld by the Court of Appeals.

Justice Department Discussed The municipality had no position as the administration had yet to withdraw federal funds, but Orick said it was “essentially the same argument” that was made in previous lawsuits.

“The threat of withholding funds causes irreparable injuries to them in the form of budget uncertainty, constitutional disenfranchisement, and eroding the trust between cities and counties and the communities they serve,” he wrote.

Olik was appointed to court by former President Barack Obama.
