Newsom Claims Trump is Targeting Him and His Wife

California’s Governor Gavin Newsom accused former President Donald Trump of targeting both him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, asserting that Trump has directed the Justice Department to scrutinize their activities.

In a social media post on Monday, Newsom claimed they have “joined Donald Trump’s hit list” amid Trump’s contemplation of another presidential run.

“Ever since the maskless dinner party at the French Laundry during the coronavirus pandemic, it’s been pretty clear that the Newsoms think they operate above the law,” he stated.

Newsom labeled Trump as “the most corrupt president in American history,” alleging that federal agents have interrogated family members, friends, and former staff about the couple.

“We’re not suggesting we’ve uncovered any crime,” he remarked, but he expressed frustration that investigators are actively searching for one. He noted that they’ve been “sifting through random documents for years.”

He added, “To get to me, he’s targeting my wife Jen, a dedicated public servant committed to empowering women and girls. We have nothing to hide.”

Newsom’s office indicated that a grand jury subpoena has likely been issued for records from a financial institution, with reports confirming that the Justice Department is following up on various inquiries.

Sources informed that multiple investigations into Newsom have been initiated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California since last year. One investigation reportedly centers on Siebel Newsom’s tax situations, while another involves Newsom’s former chief of staff and potentially some current staff.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom is known for her work in documentary filmmaking, overseeing two tax-exempt nonprofits, as well as her production company and family foundation.

Concerns have emerged regarding potential conflicts of interest linked to Siebel Newsom’s nonprofits, especially when donations surged around the time Newsom announced his gubernatorial bid in 2015.

Financial documents reveal that her organizations have funneled substantial sums into her production company, while her annual earnings from one nonprofit are around $150,000 to $160,000.

However, it remains uncertain if she is compensated by the other two nonprofits where she serves. According to some tax filings, she reportedly does not receive a salary from her family’s charitable foundation.

Commenting on the mounting allegations, Michael Chamberlain from Protect the Public’s Trust remarked that if a governor in a one-party state like California feels heat from his own capital, people might wonder if there are deeper issues at play.

Additional allegations involve a former investigator linked to Newsom, who is facing several charges concerning campaign finance violations. This has raised questions about the influences at play within the state’s government.

When asked for official remarks, Newsom’s office reiterated accusations against Trump, asserting that he manipulates the Justice Department for personal gains. Meanwhile, the White House deferred inquiries to the Justice Department, which has not issued a formal response.
